December - Solstice Transformative Full Moon

This will be the last full moon of the year, on Tuesday December 26 at 4:33 PM PST.

It will be aligned with the constellation Gemini (sidereal astrology), in the Shiva-Shakti axis, more precisely the star Betelgeuse, called Ardra in Vedic astrology. It's the hunter's shoulder, part of the Orion constellation.

This star is turbulent and unstable - even astronomers say so! Ardra is ruled by Rudra, god of thunderstorms, one of Shiva's forms. Storms are sometimes necessary to lighten the atmosphere and purify the earth. During this full moon, we may be hypersensitive and emotionally agitated. This star is associated, among other things, with the wound of rejection, which can be rekindled these days for those who carry it. Purifying tears may want to flow, and we need to welcome and release them to renew ourselves and lighten the sometimes heavy atmosphere we give off because of these emotions.

Every year, around the winter solstice, the sun crosses the center of the galaxy and its black hole (the beginning of Sagittarius), which is a portal to other dimensions. It's called Vishnunabhi, the navel of Vishnu, representing our origins, from which creation springs. It's a time to become aware of our origins, and to find the root cause of any problem we may have. What do I want to send into the black hole that no longer serves me? This part of Sagittarius is ruled by the goddess Kali, Shiva's wife, who cleans up our lives and takes us out of illusion, like a Mother correcting her children.

The Sun-Moon opposition (full moon) in Gemini-Sagittarius is also Shiva and Shakti looking at each other. A propitious moment for inner marriage, harmonizing our two hemispheres, feminine and masculine, solar and lunar.

Mercury is retrograde until January 2 and transits, with Mars, the very sensitive point at the junction of Sagittarius and Scorpio until December 30. This is one of the three "gandantha points", meaning "karmic knot to untie". These last days of the year invite us to confront our deepest shadows and fears. The Mars-Mercury combination can make us somewhat impulsive and impatient, especially on the 27th when they will be in "planetary war" (perfect conjunction with Mars).

However, this is an excellent time for shamanic work, yoga, martial arts and tantra. Jupiter goes direct again on December 31, after several months of retrograde. So it's time to start new projects and make commitments after this date. Happy full moon and welcome back the Light!
