January - Wolf Full Moon
It's the first full moon of the year, known as the “wolf moon”, on Monday January 13 at 2:27 pm PST.
It will be at the junction of the Gemini and Cancer constellations (sidereal astrology), with Mars retrograde nearby, inviting us to slow down, or even stop for a moment. The Moon-Mars conjunction in Cancer could bring emotional agitation, hypersensitivity and irritability.
The full Moon will be aligned with the stars Castor and Pollux, called Punarvasu in Vedic astrology, which means “the return of light”, not only in nature, but also within us! It's also known as the “star of renewal”. It's the star of new beginnings, freed from the past. What a great theme to start the year with! Leaving behind what no longer serves us and renewing ourselves! It symbolizes resilience and the ability to bounce back after an ordeal, to break out of the patterns we sometimes unconsciously repeat, giving us the impression of going round in circles.
Punarvasu is ruled by Aditi, the mother of the 12 forms of the sun, “She who is without limits”. She invites us to step out of our mental matrix, with its names and forms, concepts, judgments and ruminations, and embrace the limitless. It presents us with the infinite possibilities!
It's an excellent full moon for writing, poetry and all forms of learning and training. This constellation is also linked to fractals, and it's a good time to explore them and travel through the infinitely small and the infinitely large.
This year, the full moon takes place on the same day as “Makar Sankranti”, the Sun's entry into the constellation of Capricorn, which marks the beginning of the Sun's journey northwards, bringing ever greater clarity until the summer solstice. Happy full moon!
