November - Diwali New Moon
It will be a new moon this Friday, November 1, at 5:47 PDT.
The new moon will be close to the star Arcturus, located in the constellation Libra (sidereal astrology). It's called Swati in Vedic astrology. Its symbol is a reed that bends rather than breaks in the face of inclement weather. It represents resilience in the storm of our lives, non-resistance to what is. This nakshatra is ruled by Vayu, god of air. It's the ideal time for breathing exercises (pranayamas) and breathwork. With this constellation, beware of dispersion, agitation and the mind going in all directions!
Here, this new moon corresponds to the Celtic festival All Hallow's Eve, or Samhain, which means, for the Northern hemisphere, “the end of summer”, halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice, and a time of year when the veil between worlds and dimensions fades.
In India, Diwali is celebrated as the festival of light and its victory over darkness. As the days shorten and the darkness intensifies, it's time to turn inward to find that ever-present Light of Self.
We'll need to turn to this inner light in the coming weeks, as the astral configurations are showing a lot of tension and volatility, especially in early November!
First, the two fiery planets, Sun and Mars, are weakened, Sun until November 15, and Mars until January 20. So we may have less energy, vitality, confidence, discipline and willpower.
What's more, the Mars-Pluto opposition, at its peak on November 3, January 3-4 and April 25-29, is somewhat intense and unpredictable. The last time it occurred in the Cancer-Capricorn axis was in the 18th century, with several revolutions, including the French Revolution! It could make us irritable and make us act on impulse... emotionally! On a global level, it could provoke explosive and unforeseen events, rebellions and revolts, especially during the highly polarized American elections! The United States is experiencing its first Pluto return since 1716! This country will be in upheaval and renewal in the months and years ahead!
Next, Venus, planet of diplomacy and the heart chakra, will cross the tail of Scorpio from November 4 to 8, which could bring to light and reveal some hidden poisons and nauseating energies, both in our relationships and in the world, that could disappoint us.
Saturn square Mercury from November 10 to 14 could make us more pessimistic and worried. We need to take refuge in what is luminous and beyond the material world, so as not to be too affected by what's happening and to keep our serenity and bliss. Happy Diwali!
